Stay strong. Stay independent. Stay home.
Physical therapy designed for older adults, and the families who care for them, optimize mobility, reduce fall risk, recover post surgically and stay independent at home.
Virtual throughout California; in-person in the Bay Area when clinically appropriate.
How long can I safely stay independent at home?
Independence depends on a chain of physical capabilities. Nurtura's physical therapists evaluate each link and strengthen the weak ones before they become a crisis.
You don't have to wait for a fall.
Four clinical programs. One goal: independence at home.
Every plan begins with a licensed physical therapist measuring strength, gait, balance, endurance and functional mobility against age-matched norms, then setting goals around the activities that matter to you. Preventive, restorative or post-surgical, the plan is personalized and progressed as you improve.
Strength & Mobility
Progressive resistance and gait training for lower-extremity strength, sit-to-stand, transfers, stairs and walking endurance. Measured against age-matched norms.
Learn more →Balance & Fall Prevention
Standardized balance and gait testing to identify fall risk early, then a progressive balance, strength and gait program. Exercise reduces falls in older adults by roughly a quarter.
Learn more →Post-Surgical Recovery
Restoring strength, range of motion and walking after hip or knee replacement, cardiac surgery, spine surgery or a hospital stay, once your surgeon has cleared you.
Learn more →Home Mobility & Safety
A functional evaluation of how you move in your actual home: stairs, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and entryways. Task-specific training and clinical equipment recommendations.
Learn more →A PT-led evaluation of strength, balance, gait, endurance, transfers, stairs and home mobility that identifies which program fits. You leave with Your Independence Plan.
Schedule an assessment →Can I still…
- Get out of my favorite chair?
- Walk to the mailbox?
- Go upstairs?
- Shower safely?
- Carry groceries?
- Walk outside?
- Attend family events?
- Play with my grandchildren?
- Walk my dog?
- Continue living in my home?
These are the goals we measure against. Not just a number on a strength test, but whether you can keep doing the things that make your life yours.
Aging in Place PT may help if you or your parent…
A fall is often the end result of changes that began months earlier. We help identify those changes early, and help finish the recovery a surgery or hospital stay started.
Talk with a Nurtura Physical Therapist- Has fallen recently, or is worried about falling
- Is walking more slowly
- Has started using furniture for support
- Has difficulty standing from a chair
- Avoids stairs
- Gets tired more easily
- Has stopped activities they used to enjoy
- Has become less active after a hospitalization
- Is recovering from a hip or knee replacement, cardiac surgery or another operation
- Needs more help around the house
- Has difficulty using a cane or walker
- Wants to remain independent at home
Know when to help, and when to let them keep doing things themselves.
Maintaining independence often means avoiding both too little support and too much. We help adult children understand what a parent can safely do on their own, where assistance is needed, whether a cane or walker makes sense, and what changes to watch for.
PT-led assessment and treatment of mobility, strength, balance, endurance, functional movement, fall risk, home mobility and physical independence.
A caregiving or home care agency, a substitute for your primary care physician, a geriatric care management company, or emergency medical care. We coordinate with these providers when appropriate.
